2011 Food Drive Update
This year’s food drive was a huge success. Together all three sites raised almost 4 TONS of food!
Donations from local communities poured into donation boxes placed in our communities. Employees from all three sites worked diligently to gather food and monetary donations. Many employees worked on their own time to deliver, pick up, and gather food and donations. Monies gathered from dress down days were used to help local families in need this Christmas Season.
Despite early worries that donations would be down, we actually saw in increase from last year. Many local families have said that they are struggling to put food on their own tables this year and had no extra to give. We have also seen an increase in people passing through the clinic in Laurel Fork requesting food and have heard from local food banks that there have been large increases in the number of people coming in for help. We hope that the donations that we were able to gather will help our local families be able to have some warm meals and give them the assurance that people care about their well-being.
Donations were distributed to the following food pantries and backpack programs:
Food Banks
Harris Chapel UMC, Meadows of Dan
Red Cross of Galax
Patrick County Food Bank, Stuart
Hostel Homeless Shelter, Galax
Victory Way Baptist Church, Hillsville
St. James UMC, Ferrum
